From a dog’s perspective, going to the vet can be a stimulating and potentially fear / anxiety inducing experience. A few reasons why this might happen despite our best intentions:

  • The vet clinic is filled with lots of interesting smells that they can’t get to while being on a leash (this can be frustrating).

  • There are sounds, sights, and smells that are confusing (this  can build anxiety).

  • Veterinary visits usually include naturally aversive interactions….such as needles, thermometers, and handling (this can cause discomfort , +/- pain)

Our pets need veterinary care… So what can we do to help them feel better about this process?

Dual certified veterinary technician and trainer, Julia, collaborates with local veterinary clinics offering the service “Puppies at the Vet”. The mission of this service is to create more comfort and predictability for dogs when they are in early socialization phases, as well as increase collaboration between veterinary professionals and clients.
